Mae Kachan Hill Tribe Creations
Hand crafted made ethically by beautiful Artisan Woman from the Mae Kachan Hill Tribe in Northern Thailand. Often known as Long Necks due to the large rings they wear on their on necks.
Many Kayan people fled violent conflict and political turmoil in Myanmar and crossed the border to Thailand. Because many lack full Thai citizenship or land rights, living and working in these tourist areas provides a source of income they otherwise wouldn't have.
I was skeptical about visiting because to me it seemed like a Human Zoo from what i had researched. However after spending time talking with these Women I understood their situation.
You need to pay to enter the site however the gate money goes to business operators or organizers rather than directly to the tribal members, who rely heavily on selling physical trinkets/crafts to make a living.
